Social-Emotional Counseling at NCPA
At NCPA, our counseling department provides important support for students’ academic excellence and social excellence. As part of counseling, Social-Emotional Counselors help students develop positive attitudes toward themselves, peers, teachers, families and the community. We hope to guide students to explore who they are, what they want to do in the future, and how to achieve their goals. The Advisory Program for lower grade students is one of the social and emotional support provided by the counseling department. During the advisory last week, we had interesting team building games that promote communication among students and teachers. Teachers also explain the relevant operation of the school system, to help students for a more convenient campus life. In addition, social-emotional counselors meet with students to address issues privately and respectfully. When needed, counselors serve in a team with Dean of Students, Principals and create individual action plans for student success. What’s more, counselors provide training to staff and students about best practices in child protection. For parents, counselors deliver parent info sessions several times a semester to help parents understand their teenager’s social emotional needs and how they can support the kids as a parent.
